29-Year-Old Man Drives Car into University Pool After Heated Rent Dispute with Mother

A 29-year-old man drove his sedan into a swimming pool on the Chulalongkorn University campus early Thursday after arguing with his mother over unpaid rent, police said.

The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. at the university’s main campus in Pathumwan district. According to investigators, the man, identified only as a 29-year-old Thai national, became distressed after his mother refused to continue paying 27,000 baht per month for his condominium rent.
Witnesses reported that the man drove onto the campus grounds, ignored attempts by security guards to stop him, accelerated through a barrier fence, and plunged into the pool.
University security and rescue workers quickly responded, pulling the man from his partially submerged vehicle. He was the sole occupant and was taken to Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital for medical examination. No other injuries were reported.
Police are investigating the incident, including the man’s mental state at the time. Charges related to property damage and trespassing are expected.
The dramatic event caused minor disruption on campus but did not affect university operations.
